“We Won’t Run” is the 2nd video from the As Day Follows Night album. Yet again a beautifully provocative song that is simple in structure so as to allow the lyrical story of two people breaking through an emotionally difficult period, facing home truths and realising that by standing by each other they will allow themselves to forge new ground and reap the rewards of walking together though hard times. Blasko worked closely with Director Producer Natasha Pincus of Stark Raving Productions for this clip.
Despite the simplicity of the clip, Pincus said that this video was one of the hardest to do based on the extensive pre-production principles. There are no effects at all on this and from the outset Natasha was looking to create an optical illusion using more traditional methods rather than reverting to more commonly used modern green screens and CGI. It is basically a 40 foot mural with Sarah sitting and standing in the middle, extremely high contrast and then compression in the grading. Also because everything in the frame is black and white and its shot in colour, it gives a beautiful depth to the clip. Given the overall size of the mural, the pan out is also rising slightly from directly in front to shooting slightly above the subject. End result, simply beautiful. Sarah Blasko is touring from October to November – on the back of the art direction of the clips so far, I suspect there will be some beautiful staging to complement the music.
