In case you haven't realised, we're in the midst of conference season. Seems like every couple of weeks a bunch of music industry nerds (me included) get together to talk shop. Amplified in Tassie, Sound Summit in Newcastle, AMBC in Sydney, Big Sound in Brisbane, iNTune in Darwin and One Movement in Perth. Wherever it is, we love it. Last Wednesday I boarded a flight for Darwin. I ain't ever been there so when the offer came up to attend the NT Indigenous Music Awards and the iNTune music conference, I jumped at it! These events are a golden opportunity to discover a community. It's easy for me to get caught up in Melbourne's live music scene, i've lived an breathed it for years now, but it's incredible to see the depth, complexity and vibrancy of the music scene in places like NT. I was lucky enough to meet musicians from all over the territory, playing all genres. Highlights included the bands below. Check em out. Find out what territorians do in the wet season: Jess Ribiero and The Bone Collectors (World Class Folk, Jazz and Soul. Lyrically fascinating and musically beguiling) The Moving Targets (Accoustic Rock with Soul and brilliant songwriting) June Mills (Elder Stateswoman of Indigenous Singer Songwriters, simple and beautiful. Took my breath away with a simple accoustic guitar performance) The Tableland Drifters (Indienous Hall Of Fame inductees, great songs, energy and serious guitar pyrotchnics). Unbroken Expanse (Awesome Riffage from Tenant Creek) Shemishigure (J-Pop meets punk. like an Anime version of the Ramones)
