Sia Furler's been living overseas for years now, first carving out a notable career singing with Zero 7 and then building a solo career that puts her on the cusp of some serious mainstream success. Last year, when she released the awesome clip to the single "Buttons" she had a viral hit on her hands and the momentum of it's success ensured the album "Some People Have Real Problems", took off.
That said, it wasn't undeserved, it's a great album; beautiful, simple production, gorgeous songs and Sia's soulful voice make it a pleasure to listen to. Also, you should check out some of her interviews on YouTube or follow her on Twitter, she's one of the most engaging, honest and entertaining and funny performers this side of the social networking revolution.
Anyway, Sia's just recorded a cover of The Church's Under The Milky Way. The song, in it's melancholic glory is an Australian classic and Sia gives it some subtle treatment and makes it her own. The funny thing is, it was commissioned by an advertising agency for use in a television campaign for a Lincoln MKT car.
Yep, an Australian artist, covering an Australian song that romaticises Australia for use in an ad for an all American car brand. But who am I to question the logic there?
You can go to the Lincoln website and download the song for free. Click here for the mp3.
