CW Stoneking - Jungle Blues

Did anyone raise an eyebrow when CW Stoneking won an AIR Award and an ARIA award a couple of weeks back? Did anyone think it was significant or unusual that a man playing obscure stylised blues from the Deep South of the USA and he Deepest Jungles of Africa had beaten the tree-hugging, didge-playing, guitar sliding, festival loving set that have dominated blues and roots in Australia over the past decade? 

CW Stoneking is a method acting musician from Melbourne, but to hear him play or sing you'd have to concede that calling him "Australian" gives him a geographical anchoring that doesn't suit his persona or music. He's a citizen of another time and another age and one of our true musical treasures.
